Devices
Settings → Devices sets the sound devices by function, so the ringtone can ring somewhere other than where you talk. Changes take effect straight away, in a call as well as out of one.
Microphone
- The drop-down chooses the device; System default follows what macOS uses.
- The bar under it moves when the microphone hears you — say something to check that it is the right one (Say something — this moves when the microphone hears you).
- Volume sets the microphone volume.
Speakers
- The drop-down chooses the device you hear the other side on; System default follows macOS.
- Test plays a sound through it.
- Volume is the loudness of the other side.
Ringtone
- The first drop-down chooses the melody (for example Classic). The folder button next to it lets you pick your own sound file.
- Test plays it.
- The second drop-down chooses where the ringtone plays. Same as the speakers keeps it in one place; choose another device to ring, for example, on a loudspeaker while you wear a headset.
- Volume is the loudness of the ringtone.
Other sounds
Volume of the program's other sounds — the ones that are not a ringtone or a voice: the tones for a busy number, for a call that has ended, and for a call answered for you.
Restore defaults
Restore defaults, at the bottom of the tab, puts the devices and the volumes back as they were when the program was installed.
